Photo Submission

📸 Photo Submission & Quality Policy

“Quality in. Quality out.” That’s one of the cornerstones of every piece we create at Furever Etch. The heart of your custom portrait starts with the photo you submit—and the better the image, the more beautiful, detailed, and accurate your finished engraving will be.

Whether you're memorializing a beloved pet or capturing a cherished moment, we want to make sure the final product honors that connection with clarity, quality, and care.

🖼 Why Photo Quality Is So Important

Laser engraving is different from standard printing or digital displays—it works entirely in contrast and depth, not color. That means the engraving machine relies on sharp lines, visible details, and balanced lighting in your photo to replicate what you see digitally into a physical etched portrait.

Unlike editing a printed photo, we can’t "fix" a low-resolution, blurry, or dark image during engraving. So the better your photo from the start, the more stunning your final product will be.

We lovingly enhance every image to the best of our ability—but the engraving is only as good as the photo allows.

✅ Photo Requirements & Recommendations

To help you select the best image for engraving, here’s a complete list of our ideal photo criteria:

📏 1. Resolution Matters – Go Big

  • Submit the highest resolution version of your photo possible.

  • We recommend an image that is at least 3000 pixels on the longest side (or roughly 10 megapixels or higher).

  • Avoid screenshots or photos saved from social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc.), as they’re often compressed and blurry.

  • Always upload the original image file directly from your phone, camera, or email—not a resized or cropped version.

💡 2. Lighting Makes All the Difference

  • Natural light (like a shaded outdoor area or a bright indoor space near a window) is best.

  • Avoid photos that are too dark or have harsh backlighting.

  • Try to use a photo with even lighting, without shadows falling across your pet’s face or body.

  • Watch out for color distortion from indoor bulbs—yellow or blue lighting can flatten detail.

🐾 3. Clarity & Sharpness

  • Your pet (or subject) should be in sharp focus, especially around the eyes, nose, and main facial features.

  • Blurry, pixelated, or motion-blurred images do not translate well to engraving.

  • Avoid photos where the subject is far away or zoomed in too much from a low-resolution image.

📐 4. Subject Positioning

  • Full-face photos or ¾-angle (looking slightly to the side) work best.

  • The subject should be clearly visible and centered in the photo.

  • Make sure no part of the face or ears is cropped off unless intentionally artistic.

  • Avoid photos with large objects in front of the pet (like toys, people, or furniture) that may obscure features.

🌿 5. Simple Backgrounds Preferred

  • While we do our best to remove or soften busy backgrounds, choosing a photo with a neutral or uncluttered background leads to cleaner results.

  • Outdoor backgrounds with trees, fields, or sky are great if lighting is balanced.

📱 6. Use Modern Devices When Possible

  • The newer the smartphone, digital camera, or tablet, the better the image quality.

  • iPhones (model 8 and newer), Samsung Galaxy (S10 and newer), and most DSLR or mirrorless cameras produce excellent results.

  • Avoid webcams, security cameras, or old phone models if possible.

🛠 What Our Editors Do

Once we receive your photo, our expert photo editors personally review it and begin preparing it for engraving. This may include:

  • Cropping for best composition and subject framing

  • Adjusting brightness, contrast, and sharpness

  • Removing or softening the background

  • Converting the image to black and white/grayscale for accurate engraving

  • Optimizing it for clarity and tonal depth specific to the material (slate, wood, acrylic, etc.)

Our goal is always to preserve the spirit and personality in the image while translating it into an engraving that you’ll cherish forever.

If your photo does not meet our minimum standards, we may reach out and request a better image before production begins. You are always welcome to submit multiple photo options, and we’ll gladly help you select the one with the best potential.

⚠ Important Disclaimers

  • We cannot enhance what isn’t there. If a photo is blurry, poorly lit, or low in detail, those issues will appear in the final engraving.

  • We do not guarantee perfection on engravings created from subpar photo submissions.

  • By submitting a photo, you agree that the final engraving is based on your chosen image and that natural limitations of the photo may affect the final result.
